On Sunday, May 3 2026, Professor Elizabeth Childs, the Etta and Mark Steinberg Professor of Modern Art, delivered the Mark S. Weil Lecture “Why Gauguin Matters: Artistic Response from Matisse to Global Contemporary Art” at the Jamestown Arts Center. The late Mark Weil was an emeritus professor at Washington University in St. Louis and an esteemed faculty member in the Department. The lecture was established in his memory by his wife, the artist and WashU emerita Sam Fox School faculty member Joan Hall.
